DURHAM, N.C. – Prosecutors have moved to dismiss charges for the activists who destroyed a confederate monument in August.

District Attorney Roger Echols decided to dismiss the charges for the remaining activists who participated in bringing down the statue at the old Durham courthouse.

The court will not pursue felony charges because evidence did not support it. The case was tried as a misdemeanor offense instead. He says acts of violence are still in a violation of law.

Echols says that while the outcome does not make everyone happy, he wants to “make Durham a community for everyone.”
