DURHAM -- Individual trials began Monday for the eight people who are accused of toppling a Confederate monument in Durham last August.

They're charged with conspiracy to deface real property, injury to real property, defacing a public building or monument and conspiracy to deface a public building or monument.

So far, the judge has dismissed a case against one of the defendants, Dante Strobino. The judge says prosecutors failed to establish that Strobino was the perpetrator in tearing down the Confederate statue.

Supporters of all of the defendants plan to hold a march and rally after the court sessions.
