JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Military members and their families spent Saturday focusing on wellness.

Hope for the Warriors hosted a Wellness Expo at Martial Arts and More in Jacksonville.

Participants took part in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, yoga, and self-defense classes.

A military veteran also spoke about the importance of mental fortitude, and improving self-worth through wellness.

For participants, it's not just about the physical challenges.

Organizers hope the event encourages others to test out the health benefits of martial arts.

"It's healthy, you're getting out there, you're getting active, when you come off the mat your sweating and your muscles are tired but you're glad you did it,” said Nate Luna with Hope for the Warriors. “So the mind, body, spirit and wholistic wellness is great for the military families."

All proceeds from the expo support Hope for the Warriors which provides wellness programs on Camp Lejeune.
