CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill Mayor Pan Hemminger has declared Feb. 10 "Our Three Winners Day" in memory of the three Muslim students shot and killed nearly three years ago.

On Feb. 10, 2015, Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu Salha and her sister Razan Abu Salha were shot in their home.

The Our Three Winners Foundation was established to continue their legacy of service and philanthropy.

Members of the organization say the day is not meant to remember their deaths but to celebrate their lives.

"We don't want to dwell on it, we don't want to remember them as a sad event, we want to remember them through the happy memories and positive impact that they had in our lives and we are going to be able to do that on Feb. 10 by making sure that we live our best lives in the way that Deah, Yusor and Razan lived theirs," said Our Three Winners Foundation's Nida Allam.
