RALEIGH -- A WWII veteran and civil rights pioneer celebrated her 100th birthday in Raleigh Wednesday.

Millie Dunn Veasey, an African-American woman, served in the Women's Army Corps during WWII.

This was the only all-black, all-female battalion to serve overseas.

She returned to the states and attended St. Augustine's University in Raleigh and eventually became the first female president of the Raleigh NAACP.

Some of her greatest moments include meeting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., President Barack Obama, and most recently Governor Roy Cooper.

Veasey currently lives in Raleigh and is a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion.
