OSLO, Norway -- The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Also known as ICAN, the little known coalition of disarmament activists places the Nobel committee at the forefront of geopolitics.

The announcement comes at a time when fears are rising over North Korea's nuclear program. ICAN's work was the driving force behind the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

More than 120 countries agreed to the treaty back in July.
