RALEIGH -- People won't be able to enjoy ice skating in downtown Raleigh this year.

The city tradition won't be able to occur because of planning needed for the new FNB tower, a 22-story office building which is set to begin construction in City Plaza in 2018.

Though the Downtown Raleigh Alliance says it is scaling back this year's Winterfest celebration, it looks forward to doing more smaller events, which will hopefully help with traffic woes from previous years.

Winterfest events can be found here.

The "Downtown Raleigh Tree Lighting Celebration" is still scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 2 at City Plaza.
