FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Soldiers deployed to help with hurricane recovery efforts returned to Pope Army Airfield at Fort Bragg Monday evening.

Servicemen and women with the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command left for Puerto Rico at the end of September after the island was struck by Hurricane Maria.

“I am incredibly proud of our Soldiers and how they responded to this unprecedented event that affected everyone living in Puerto Rico,” said Brig. Gen. Christopher O. Mohan, commanding general of the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command in a statement. “While there is much work still to be done, I feel confident that the resiliency of the Puerto Rican people will ensure a successful recovery.”

Members of the 3rd ESC company also helped with relief efforts in Texas and Florida following hurricanes there.

Meanwhile, more than 140 soldiers with the North Carolina National Guard's 105th Engineer Battalion are also getting ready to come home.

Their welcome home event is set for Tuesday in Raeford.
