WILSON, N.C. -- The 2017 Whirligig Festival is just around the corner.

The festival will be held on November 4-5 in Wilson.

This year's festival is even more special, since the Whirligig Park is officially opening the same week.

It's taken years to restore artist Vollis Simpson's "whirligigs."

Festival director Theresa Mathis says she's excited to see them returned to their former glory.

"We worked with Vollis Simpson for about ten years of the festival," Mathis says. "And to see his work in its glory, like it is now, it just makes my heart sing."

A few more whirligigs have been added to Simpson's collection.

The park officially opens November 2.
