RALEIGH -- Unaffiliated incumbent Nancy McFarlane has won a fourth term as mayor of North Carolina's capital city.

McFarlane found herself working for a fourth term against Raleigh lawyer Charles Francis, who called for the runoff election after October's primary.

Tuesday, McFarlane overwhelmingly defeated Francis, 58 percent to 42 percent.

After the win, she says voters chose her because they like where Raleigh is headed with her at the helm.

"I think the results say what Raleigh has really valued, which is how we work together in a collaborative way,” said McFarlane. “We've never had elections that had this kind of deep partisan divide."

McFarlane has been mayor since 2011.
