GREENBORO, N.C. -- It's the end of an era for the Cone White Oak denim facility after 110 years of production. The plant will be closing on December 31 and will affect nearly 200 employees.

International Textile Group released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying, "We truly regret having to take this action to close operations, and we deeply appreciate the loyalty and dedication of all current and former employees."

The president and CEO of the company went on to say, "We would also like to thank to City of Greensboro for its strong support over the years for both our White Oak facility as well as our ITG headquarters."

Cathie Faulkner worked at the facility for 14 years. She said the plant was a place where five generations of her families worked.

"My  mom worked there. I've had aunts. I've had uncles. My grandmother worked there. My great-grandmother worked there for like I think until she was 76 or so,” she said.

She remembered a time when the employees worked closely together.

“It's just sad. I worked there when we had 3,000 people. We ran first, second, and third shift, and we were like a Cone family," she said.

The company and the City of Greensboro said they will continue to work with the affected employees to provide transition support like severance benefits. They will also be filling orders and working with customers at the facility until the closing date.
