RALEIGH – “Donate Life North Carolina” reaches a major milestone with more than five million North Carolinians now registered as organ donors.

That’s with the help of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.

One donation saved the life of Raleigh resident Latonya Jones.

After a five-year wait, Jones received a liver transplant this February.

“I’m very thankful for my donor deciding to become an organ donor and ultimately giving the ultimate gift,” said Jones. “And so I encourage everyone if it’s something you’re considering, if you’re not already an organ donor, definitely sign up because I’m a living testimony that organ donation does change lives.”

Since Jones received her transplant she’s been cycling four times a week, and she’s hosting a donation-based fitness class to spread awareness about the need for more people to register as organ donors.

The event will be at the indoor cycling studio, Cyclebar, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

If you’d like to join the donor registry, you can sign up on the Carolina Donor Services page.
