CHARLOTTE -- Wednesday is officially "Charlotte Is Prime Day" across the region.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts, the Charlotte Regional Partnership and Charlotte Chamber made the announcement Thursday, October 12.

The social media campaign was created to tell and show Amazon what makes the 16-county region special -- and a perfect fit for its huge, new second headquarters.

You can get involved by entering the "Charlotte Is Prime Day" photo and video contest.

"The contest is a fun and easy way for everyone to get involved by posting creative photos and short videos which show Amazon what’s amazing about our region," says Charlotte Regional Partnership CEO Ronnie Bryant.

"It’s a win-win opportunity. Not only do businesses and individuals have a chance to help promote the Charlotte region and themselves, but they will be in the running for great prizes,” added Charlotte Chamber president and CEO, Bob Morgan.

Here are the rules and the contest timeline:

  • Post a photo or video on social media of what makes Charlotte Prime for #AmazonHQ2, using the hashtags #CLTisPrime and #HQ2
  • Follow @CLTisPrime
  • Must tag @amazon in picture and the caption
  • Deadline to submit is Oct. 18 - #CLTisPrime Day
  • Four finalists will be announced Oct. 20 and open voting will start
  • Two winners will be announced Oct. 23
  • Prizes include: Four club-level Hornets tickets, and $50 gift cards to Clean Juice, Moo & Brew and Sycamore Brewing

Amazon says the headquarters will bring 50,000 high paying jobs and $5 billion in economic development.

Other North Carolina regions like Wake County, Greensboro and Hickory are submitting bids as well.

Amazon started accepting official proposals on Monday. All proposals for HQ2 are due Thursday. Finalists for HQ2 are expected to be selected by Dec. 1.

Amazon already has more than 2,000 employees in North Carolina.
