RALEIGH – Those who worked closely with and loved music legend Tom Petty remember his life and the sounds he left behind.

Don Lawver photographed nearly 20 Tom Petty concerts.

He said Petty proved to be a unique artist with a unique sound.

“He’s got a certain dialect,” said Lawver. “That’s why in his music as well, he’s got a certain dialect. I like his voice a lot.”

Eric Kirk of Raleigh’s Record Krate agreed, saying, “The type of music that he had, and his niche was one of a kind. And he had a lot of hit songs, and a lot of people like him, and I was actually sad to hear that news.”

Those who never met Tom Petty say they feel they did through his CDs, tapes, downloads and albums.

Petty died when he was 66, but his music lives forever.
