RALEIGH- Anime, sci-fi and superhero fans descended upon downtown Raleigh for a “super” weekend event.

A three-day celebration of cosplay, sci-fi and video games took over the Raleigh Convention Center beginning Friday.

Raleigh Supercon features film screenings, informational and how-to workshops, video games and celebrity autograph signings.

Among the celebrities who attended were Ernie Hudson, Michael Rooker, Rick Flair, LeVar Burton, and Lee Majors.

The organization said 15,000 to 20,000 attendees were expected to turn out for this event.

The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates all of those attending will or have booked a little over 1,000 night stays at local hotels, for an overall economic impact of about $1.8 million.
