RALEIGH -- The Triangle will be getting a visit from the Dalai Lama later this year.

The Buddhist spiritual leader will be making his first visit to the City of Oaks this fall as a "personal project' to Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane.

The Kadampa Buddhist Center in Raleigh held their first service Sunday since the news broke on Friday.

Director Robbie Watkins says he still can't believe the Dalai Lama will actually be coming to town.

"We're still kind of pinching ourselves,” said Watkins. “There are already people who are doing an incredible amount of work because it's a major undertaking, but it's going to be a very exciting time for the whole Triangle area."

The exact date of the Dalai Lama's visit isn't known yet and organizers are still trying to find a venue for his speech.
