FORT HOOD, Texas – A North Carolina soldier has died after a shooting in Texas where he was stationed.

Army officials said 19-year-old Pvt. Justin Antwan Lewis died April 17 of apparent gunshot wounds in Killeen, Texas.

Lewis is from Henderson, North Carolina.

He entered active-duty service in August 2016 and had beene assigned to the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas, since February.

Lewis’ death is currently under investigation by the Killeen Police Department.

Before Pvt. Justin Lewis went to Fort Hood to fight for his country, he was a quiet honor student at Southern Vance High School in Henderson.

The 19-year-old Lewis was found dead on Monday near his army base and administrators at his old high school took the time to reminisce about him.
