DURHAM -- Two people were killed in a two-vehicle, wrong-way crash on Interstate 85 in Durham early Monday.

The wreck happened in the northbound lanes about 12:15 a.m.

Police say 29-year-old Jerry Alamo, of Rhode Island, and a woman were instantly killed when the woman, who was driving the wrong way near the East Club Boulevard exit, crashed into Alamo's SUV. 

Other than Alamo, a total of eight people, including three children, were in his vehicle.

One of them, 36-year-old Glenda Alamo, was critically injured.

The other passengers were taken to the hospital. They are expected to be okay. 

There were no passengers in the second vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
