RALEIGH - A celebration of long-term recovery kicked off in Raleigh Saturday morning.

The fifth annual Capital Area Rally for Recovery took place on the Bicentennial plaza.

Organizers say they hope to encourage people to share their own stories of recovery in order to lessen the stigma that often times surrounds issues of addiction.

"The important thing is to know you are not alone, to ask for help and join the growing number of people who are talking about recovery," said Chris Budnick, Board Chair, Recovering Communities of NC.

Beginning Monday, Time Warner Cable News will be airing a week-long series titled "Out of the Shadows.”

People from all across our state will share their stories of long-term recovery.
