RALEIGH -- It’s one of the top 10 libraries of its kind in the nation.
The NC Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is based in Raleigh, but it ships reading materials for its qualified patrons statewide free of charge.
Every month the library ships out more than 40,000 items from digital books, books with braille, and DVDs with audio tracks. The library also has a vast majority of large print books.
The goal is to make sure everyone has equal access to reading material.
“One of the most memorable days of my life is when I was 7, and I got my first recorded book from the library,” said John DeLuca, a volunteer at LBPH.
More than 12,000 people statewide use the services at the library.
