RALEIGH, N.C. - A chef's dream has become a reality and is making a splash in the Triangle food scene.

The owners of Curry in a Hurry food truck are celebrating another success of the recent opening of a brick and mortar location inside the new Morgan Street Food Hall in downtown Raleigh.

Curry in a Hurry

From the moment doors open for lunch, there's a wait for Curry in a Hurry's delicious and authentic Indian cuisine.

Alaksha Surti is the executive chef and is passionate about the food she serves to her friends and family.

That passion turned into a career which prompted her to start a catering business in 2011 and open a food truck in 2017.

The assortment of gluten-free curries have been so popular that she opened a brick and mortar location at Morgan Street Food Hall in August.

Surti credits the support she receives from her family for the continued success of the business.

The recipes she learned from her mother at an early age come to life in the kitchen with the wide variety of spices she adds to the food.

Her mother stands by her side in the kitchen each day to assist with cooking duties.

"There's something for everyone. I have something spicy, I have something mild. I watched my mom cook my entire life. She used to cook three meals every day, so growing up I always watched her cook and I used to help her. She would do all of the cooking and I would do all the prepping with my sister,”

Surti's husband, Neel, is the project manager and oversees the financial side of the business in addition to maintaining a separate full-time job.

From the kitchen operations to interacting with customers at the cash register, every family member acts as a pillar of support.

Food

The butter chicken curry is the most popular dish.

Other customer favorites include the lamb curry, coconut base green curry, and the vegan channa masala which is filled with flavorful chickpeas.

Surti says each meal served to customers is made with the same love and care she shares with her family.

"This is my passion. I always tell my kids to do something you love and you'll never have to work a single day in your life.  That's how I feel," Surti said.

Curry in a Hurry is open everyday inside the Morgan Street Food Hall in downtown Raleigh.
