RALEIGH, N.C. - Clyde Cooper’s BBQ has been serving Eastern Carolina-style barbeque in Downtown Raleigh since 1938.

  • Clyde Cooper's BBQ is consistently voted as one of the best in the region.
  • The restaurant is a classic, cash-only joint.
  • The 'BBQ Baby Back Ribs' and 'Beef Brisket Dinner' are popular menu items.

In a state where barbeque quality is held to high standards, Clyde Cooper’s BBQ is consistently voted as one of the best in the region.

The classic, cash-only joint is known for the pork shoulders that slow roast for eight hours before they're served to customers.

The owner says the secret is in the sauce.

"Everybody has their own little kick on the spices and stuff that they add to it.  Our barbeque is Eastern North Carolina-style with an apple cider and vinegar based sauce.  We've probably served every Senator and Congressman in North Carolina since 1938," said Randy Holt, owner of Clyde Cooper BBQ.

‘BBQ Baby Back Ribs’ and the ‘Beef Brisket Dinner’ are also popular items on the menu.

Clyde Cooper’s BBQ has served as many as 4,000 people a day during peak season with its restaurant and catering service.
