RALEIGH -- People around the globe not only don't have a place to lay their heads at night, but also have no food to nourish their bodies.

However, just last month for World Food Day, "Rise Against Hunger” helped package more than 120,000 meals in North Carolina.

In fact, Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh alone packed more than 35,000. The nonprofit hopes to end hunger.

Just in time for the holidays, there are a number of ways you can fight against world hunger.

Plates Neighborhood Kitchen and Irregardless Café are both participating in the Plates 4 the World event on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23.

The event is sold out. However, you can still participate by placing a take-out order for pick-up the day before by visiting www.plateskitchen.com. They will then donate $6 to Rise Against Hunger.  Meanwhile, Irregardless Cafe still has room and will be donating a $1 per meal that day.

However, if you’re interested in lending a helping hand, their Raleigh warehouse is hosting a public meal packaging event Dec. 9 at their warehouse in North Raleigh.
