NORTH CAROLINA -- Sunday mornings the eyes of churchgoers are glued to whoever is at the lectern. But Rev. Garcia Morman Sr. wasn’t one for standing still, he knew how to keep his congregation’s attention.

  • Morman was the pastor at two churches including the Voice of Evangelism Church of God and Christ.
  • The songs that once graced the halls of his congregation now fill people's home in a newly-released CD.
  • Morman’s album, 'Forgiven' can be purchased at select Super-Walmarts, including in Charlotte.

Morman used his words and his lyrics to preach.

Morman was the pastor at two churches including the Voice of Evangelism Church of God and Christ in the small town of Morven, North Carolina.

“He was there whenever someone needed,” said Morman’s son, Pastor Michael Morman. “I think he was the community's pastor.”

Known for his selflessness, Morman's impact was felt beyond the walls of the church.

Much of his time was spent volunteering, from gathering supplies for victims of Hurricane Katrina to traveling to Haiti to work with children.

“He was there to pray for the sick to visit those to comfort those in rest homes. I can't begin to count how many bedsides he stood beside,” said Michael Morman.

When Morman saw a lack of opportunities for teenagers in his hometown he created a basketball league.

“He could hear them but then begin to lead them in a different direction,” said Morman’s friend, Pastor William McDonald.

Morman's words are only a memory now. He died last year from cancer but his message of kindness and respect is still spread.

The songs that once graced the halls of his congregation now fill people's home in a newly-released CD.

In a time when information comes at us faster than ever, it's sometimes important to step out of the present and remember the past.

Morman’s album “Forgiven” can be purchased at select Super Walmarts including in Charlotte. For more information head to the website.
