GOSHEN, N.Y. — A Goshen woman will spend two years behind bars after nine horses in her care were found dead last year.

Jeanne Ryan was sentenced Thursday after her conviction in July.

The county district attorney's office says she's getting the maximum sentence she can by law.

Authorities found a number of horses dead and decomposing in a barn on Ryan's property after executing a search warrant last year, as well as one horse described as "severely emaciated."

Ryan, a retired NYPD officer, is also legally barred from owning animals for 15 years and will go on the county's registry of abusers.
