Nick LaGrange joined Spectrum News in 2016.

Nick enjoys covering everything from hard news to features to sports.

Some highlights of Nick's career include interviewing a runner the day of the Boston Marathon bombing, being there for the reunion of a young woman and the firefighter who saved her life 18 years before and helping an infant boy with a cancerous condition raise enough money for a life-saving operation.

Nick grew up in the Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism. Nick was a sports reporter and anchor for the campus's IUSTV and traveled with the school's basketball and football teams.

Here are five other things you might not know about Nick:

  1. I was a three-sport athlete in high school (basketball, football, track). Basketball is easily my favorite sport. I lettered in basketball, football and track. My basketball team reached semi-state. My football team reached as far as regionals. And my 4x400 team won conference. I also joined the golf team, as a senior, just for fun. I didn't letter in that, however.
  2. I have family in Uganda. One of my first cousins is a mother of 10. Several are biological and three are adopted Ugandans. Currently, they all live in Uganda, but still have a home in Valparaiso, Indiana.
  3. I was president of my high school class. I ran for class president as a junior in high school and kept that title through graduation.
  4. My wife is an actress and singer. My wife Shayla can do it all. She sings, acts and dances. She's constantly booking gigs in all of those areas. She's the lead singer of a rock band based in Raleigh. She'll also be a dancer in "Rock of Ages," this fall.
  5. I had long hair as a teenager. At least, long enough to be allowed at Catholic school. If I had a photo of my driver's license at 16, it would blow you away.
