WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- City and local department of transportation crews in the Triad are getting ready for what could be another blast of winter weather on Wednesday.

Possible rain and snow is currently in the forecast, so crews are beginning to outfit their trucks with salt spreaders and plows.

Officials say they're closely monitoring temperatures.

City transportation officials say no matter what time of year it is, or weather event they’re expecting, they prepare the same way.

"This can happen in November, it can actually happen in April. No matter what, we prepare the same way. We take a look at the weather, and we make sure that we have an adequate supply of salt on hand, which we do. We also make sure that our employees are aware that we could possibly switch to storm mode," Randy Britton, senior community educator for the city of Winston-Salem, said.

When the city of Winston-Salem switches into storm mode, they have two crews work twelve hour shifts, monitoring and salting roads as necessary.
