WINSTON-SALEM- Boston College never made it into the red zone. So you may wonder how Wake Forest lost by a touchdown.

  • The Eagles were able to cash in on explosive touchdowns
  • Boston College went on to score on passes of 35, 29, 71 and 40 yards
  • The Demon Deacons gave up two touchdown passes of over 70 yards

The Eagles were able to cash in on explosive touchdowns. Running back AJ Dillon took off for a 45 yard run that put the Eagles up 7-0 in the first quarter.

Wake was able to capitalize on a muffed punt by Michael Walker that gave Wake great field position. A three-play drive that started at the Boston College 13 yard line led to a Matt Colburn two yard run to tie it up.

Boston College responded with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Brown to Jeff Smith in the second quarter to take the lead.

That was the story of the game. Boston College went on to score on passes of 35, 29, 71 and 40 yards.

Explosive plays frustrated Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson.

"Just all the explosive plays we give up, every time they dropped back and throw the ball there is guys running wide open right down the field, and we've got to get it fixed."

In the season opening win against Tulane, the Demon Deacons gave up two touchdown passes of over 70 yards. It's a pattern that Coach Clawson wants to fix quickly before welcoming Notre Dame to BB&T field next week at noon.
