TROUTMAN, N.C. – Hurricane Florence forced South Iredell to move up its rivalry game with Mooresville to 6 p.m. Thursday.

  • The day and time change could mess with a lot team’s routines
  • Mooresville won last year’s match-up by a point thanks to a blocked field goal as the game ended
  • Vikings under center Brady Pope is graduating

The day and time change could mess with a lot team’s routines, but first-year Blue Devils Head Coach Thad Wells says not so for his squad.

“The way we run our schedules it doesn’t really change anything for us,” Wells said. “We already built this into the week so we don’t really have to change anything, but it gives us an extra day with our families.”

Mooresville (3-0) won last year’s match-up by a point thanks to a blocked field goal as the game ended. Expect another tight game come Thursday.

“South Iredell, we go way back with them, that’s before my time basically,” said senior receiver and safety Sean Hill. “So it’s a good game, always a good game.”

“This game, I guess, would mean a little more,” said South Iredell senior receiver/safety Holland Dowdy. “I was close with the seniors last year and not being able to win last year, so it’d be nice to win this year.”

The biggest adjustment for the Vikings (2-2) this season is under center Brady Pope, as he'll be graduating. Leaving South Iredell Head Coach Scott Miller to figure out the right mix at quarterback.

“Had to replace a quarterback that statistically (was) top seven all-time in the history of our state (Pope),” said Miller. “We’re still, you know, learning and got quarterbacks trying to morph into that leadership role and trying to get all the pieces to fit before we get into conference.”
