CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hurricane Florence is heading towards the Carolinas, and as a result, the sports calendar has taken note and reorganized.

  • Many high school football games are scheduled for Friday have been moved up to Wednesday
  • College sports across the state have been shuffled to rescheduling or outright cancellations
  • ACC schools have canceled or moved up playing times

For starters, high school football games scheduled for Friday have been moved up to Wednesday in many parts of the state. In some cases, the games were postponed without even attempting an earlier-in-the-week kickoff.

College sports across the state, not just football, have been shuffled to rescheduling or outright cancellations as well.

The college football calendar, however, draws the most attention, and there will only be a few games played in the state this weekend. The big cancellations come from ACC schools, as NC State will not host West Virginia.  North Carolina's home opener with Central Florida has been called, as has East Carolina's trip to Blacksburg, VA to meet Virginia Tech.

Of the local ACC teams, Wake Forest and Boston College will play, but kickoff has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

Duke travels to meet Baylor in Waco, TX on Saturday.
