KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- People packed the grocery stores to stock up ahead of the winter storm.

  • Popular items are milk, bread and eggs
  • Some shoppers are buying goods for home
  • Lowes Food in Kernersville plans to stay open throughout the storm

Shoppers say they are preparing for the worst.

"The deli is pretty packed. I think people are getting stuff that are already packed because we are probably going to lose power," shopper Heather McCrone said.

"Lasagna, maybe some spaghetti, maybe some pot roast, mashed potatoes. Things that are warm and yummy and we can have some fabulous leftovers," shopper Melissa Tiedemann said.

Tiedemann says she was not just preparing for home.

"I got lots of food that I could make ahead of time and take in. I own a small business here in town and we take care of dogs. I want to make sure that me and any of my employees that are able to come in have some food to eat," she said.

Lowes Food employees says popular items are milk, bread and eggs.

Some shoppers planned to ride out the storm with more than just the essentials.

"I've already stocked up on those essentials. I'm in here for the sweets and cookies, the things you want to snack on when the snow's coming down," Brenda Bovender said.

Lowes Food in Kernersville plans to stay open as usual throughout the storm.
