NORTH CAROLINA -- Enjoy the mostly dry weather now because rain is on the way. A low pressure system is currently moving east across the Midwest as its associated cold front sweeps across the Deep South.

  • Widespread rain will slide across the Carolinas this afternoon and evening
  • Highs today will be mild in the upper 50s for the Triad and low 60s for the Triangle
  • Highs will likely jump up into the upper 60s to mid 70s for many Sunday afternoon

Ahead of the front, widespread rain will slide across the Carolinas this afternoon and evening. Saturday morning will feature gradually warming temperatures and partly cloudy skies. Skies will turn cloudy for all this afternoon as rain invades from the southwest.

Highs today will be mild in the upper 50s for the Triad and low 60s for the Triangle. Fayetteville and the Sandhills area will range from the low to mid 60s for a daytime high. The warm trend in temperatures will ramp up Sunday.

A warm front will lift north through the area overnight. Highs will likely jump up into the upper 60s to mid 70s for many Sunday afternoon.

Isolated showers will be possible through our warm Sunday. The cold front will likely move through late Sunday/early Monday.

Cold air behind the front will take a while before dominating the area. Expect a gradual cool down back into chilly temperatures. Highs will fall into the upper 60s Monday, 50s Tuesday, and into the 40s by Wednesday.
