ADVANCE, N.C.-- A domestic incident put two people in the hospital in Davie County Friday morning.

  • A husband and a wife were both shot at a home on Cameron Court.
  • Davie County sheriff identified the two involved in the shooting as Michelle Lane and Joel Lane.
  • Two kids were inside at the time of the shooting.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office says husband and a wife were both shot at the home on Cameron Court in Advance. The Sheriff said two kids were inside at the time of the shooting.

Sheriff J.D. Hartman says a woman called 911 around 6 a.m. Friday morning from the home on Cameron Court.

"A lady stated she had been shot. Officers responded and found one adult male and one adult female in the home shot,” Hartman explained.

Hartman identified the two as Michelle Lane and Joel Lane. Rescue crews took both to the hospital with gunshot wounds from a handgun.

"We know they both were in surgery. We have not received an update from the hospital yet,” Hartman said.

Hartman says there were two kids in the home at the time of the shooting, but will not release their ages.

"One of those juveniles made it to a neighbor's house who took her in and kept her there,” Hartman said.

The other child was still inside the home when deputies arrived. Both children are with Social Services.

Hartman said this is a domestic related situation, and neighbors should not be worried. He did say they've been to this home before.

"There was a previous domestic incident. There is a domestic violence order in place at this house,” Hartman said.

He says the order barred Joel Lane from the home.

Neighbors say they're surprised this happened.
