YADKINVILLE, N.C. – It was a dreary day, but an exciting wine festival.

  • The festival has been going on for 15 years
  • It gives people a chance to try wines from across the county
  • The rain didn't bother many people who attended

The Yadkin Valley Grape Festival features wines from across Yadkin Valley and has been doing so for 15 years.

"The great thing about a festival like this is that you get the opportunity to try wines from vineyards that you may not have visited yet. You'll learn that you like that vineyard and that encourages you then to go visit that vineyard," Bobby Todd with the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce said.

"A couple of our favorite wineries are here like Weathervain and Slightly Askew is one of our favorites. So we always like to support them," festivalgoer Amber Shelton said.

The event also has a huge economic impact on restaurants, shops and other vendors officials say.

"We provide shuttle service from all of the hotels and bed and breakfasts in the county. They sell a lot of rooms,” Shelton said.

Many people said the rain didn’t bother them at all.

"We've had a great turnout. Quite frankly, a lot of folks that are true wine drinkers don't mind a little weather," Shelton said.
