Assistant Principal Jean Elizabeth Ransom died in a fatal crash Tuesday night.

Troopers say Ransom was driving east on U.S. Highway 70 when a driver going the opposite way crossed the center line and slammed into her head on.

Both Ransom and the driver died at the scene.

Her colleagues say she was upbeat and always there for the students.

"She was a total giver of herself, always giving of herself. She loved kids. She was a consummate professional. Dependable. Held high standards, and expected the best out of all our young people," said Brian Herndon, the athletic director.
