WINSTON SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA -- Some parents in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School district have raised questions about why school was not closed on Thursday.

  • The superintendent said they were talking with the National Weather Service, Duke Energy and Emergency Management about weather conditions
  • Parents say they have issues with why bus drivers were allowed to drive over flooded streets
  • The district says by the time Hurricane Michael hit, it was too close to dismissal

In a robocall to parents, the superintendent said they were talking with the National Weather Service, Duke Energy and Emergency Management about weather conditions.

However, parents say they have issues with why bus drivers were allowed to drive over flooded streets.

"I think it's super scary," said parent Patty Rowan. "Driving a bus on any given day is a huge responsibility and I think driving in those conditions puts a lot of added stress on the bus drivers."

The district says by the time Hurricane Michael hit, it was too close to dismissal.

They added that all of their students made it home safely.
