FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash Wednesday morning that killed a child walking to school in Walkertown.

  • Troopers say that a 1992 GMC truck was traveling along Main Street in Walkertown and struck an 11-year-old girl
  • The child died at the scene
  • Investigators are trying to determine contributing factors in the collision at this time

Troopers say that a 1992 GMC truck was traveling along Main Street in Walkertown and struck 11-year-old Laniya Sebetha Wright just before 7 a.m. as she was walking to school. After impact, Wright was run over by a Winston-Salem Forsyth County School Bus traveling on Main Street.

The incident happened near Leight Street. The child died at the scene.

Dustin Clay Walker, the operator of the 1992 GMC truck that initially hit Wright, as well as Milon Mccoy-Clement, the school bus operator are fully cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
