NORTH CAROLINA -- A Burlington teen is recovering after a near-deadly accident on a class trip to Puerto Rico back in September.

  • As of October 7, the Hartle family announced that Andrew is starting light physical therapy

Andrew Hartle dove into the ocean and hit is head on a rock, resulting in a loss of feeling or movement from the chest down.

In the days since, Hartle has managed to make some progress, moving his arm but nothing below the waist.

His parents set up a GoFundMe account to help them pay for medical expenses.

As of October 7, the Hartle family announced that Andrew is starting light physical therapy. He's still breathing with help of ventilator but is hoping to be weaning over the next few days.
