FLORENCE, S.C. -- Hundreds of people are coming together on Monday to remember the police officer who was shot and killed during an hours-long standoff in South Carolina last week.

  • Hundreds are remembering Florence Officer Terrence Carraway
  • Carraway was shot and killed during a standoff in Florence last week; six other officers were injured
  • Police are still trying to determine a motive in the shooting

Sgt. Terrence Carraway, 52, was one of 6 law enforcement officers shot last Wednesday while trying to serve a search warrant to a home in Florence.

Once they arrived, three Florence County deputies and four Florence police officers were shot. The shooter was 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins, who is now in jail.

All seven officers were taken to the hospital. Carraway unfortunately didn't make it.

Loved ones held a visitation from 9 to 11 on Monday, open to the public.

"It's a sad day. There's just a quietness in the neighborhood. Just listen around, you can look around, there's 500 cars. You can hear a pin drop on the ground right now. It's just a very somber and sad day," said Carraway's friend Ashlee Pedro.

Police are still trying to determine a motive as to why Hopkins shot the officers. Police say they were delivering the search warrant to Seth Hopkins, Frederick's son.

So far more than $40,000 has been raised to support the family through a GoFundMe account.
