BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Burlington police officers have given fish games parlors in the city notice to shut down.

  • Police say majority of crime happens near the shops
  • There are 25 active fish parlors in Burlington
  • The shops have until Oct. 15 to close

The department says a crime study revealed the majority of violent crimes in the city appeared near the shops.

"We've seen stabbings. We've seen shootings, robberies, murder,” said Lt. Alan Balog. “Primarily, it's an effort to try and get the cash that's generated from the gambling operation, and that's the motivation for the criminals."

The shops all have until Oct. 15 to close. The lieutenant says there are 25 active fish parlors in Burlington.
