The center of Florence is slowly crawling across eastern South Carolina as a tropical storm late Saturday morning. However, the impacts from the system remain incredibly significant and far-reaching.

A band of extremely heavy rain and storms continues to feed off of the Atlantic Ocean into southeastern North Carolina, and that band is then wrapping around through the Sandhills and into the southern piedmont.

Unfortunately, for southeastern parts of the state, another 10-20" of rain are possible before the rain finally shuts down early next week.

Through the piedmont and up into parts of the foothills, another 8-12" of rain are possible, with many areas in the southern foothills, mountains, and northern and northeastern NC potentially receiving 3-7".

Southeastern North Carolina will continue to experience catastrophic flooding problems, and the flash flooding potential is spreading today into the piedmont and foothills. Tonight, the mountains could get into the heavier rains, and there will be the threat of mudslides up that way.

Winds will remain gusty. There remains the chance for gusts in excess of 40 or 50mph at times in many areas today and tonight before the wind fields with Florence subside further on Sunday. This means power outages will likely continue to mount, especially considering the saturated nature of the soil.

Please remember, never enter or drive into areas of standing or rushing water.
