NORTH CAROLINA -- As the Carolinas prepare for the impact of Hurricane Florence, several school systems, college and universities and many more have canceled classes and/or events.

We have a list of major cancellations below and you can view a full list of closings by region here: 


Colleges and universities

UNC Chapel Hill - Classes canceled from Tuesday at 5 p.m. through Friday. Campus under "adverse weather plan" beginning Tuesday at 5 p.m., lasting until Sunday at 5 p.m.

NC State University - Normal operations are suspended from Wednesday to Sunday at 5 p.m.

Duke University - Classes canceled beginning 5 p.m. Wednesday. "Severe weather policy" beginning Thursday at noon.

North Carolina Central University - All classes canceled Tuesday through Friday. 

East Carolina University - Classes canceled after at 12 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Fayetteville State University - Campus operating under Condition 1, Student Voluntary Evacuation.

UNC Wilmington - Mandatory campus evacuation beginning 8 a.m. Tuesday. 

UNC Greensboro - UNC Greensboro will cancel all classes and all other university activities beginning at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Normal operations are anticipated to resume at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

NC State University - Classes canceled beginning Wednesday at noon, no classes Thursday or Friday. 

Meredith College - Classes canceled Wednesday through Friday. 

Appalachian State University - Classes canceled from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Sunday. 

UNC Charlotte - Effective 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, evening classes are canceled. All classes and university activities are canceled Thursday through Sunday.

NC A&T State University - All classes and most campus activites cancelled starting noon on Wed., Sept. 12.; to resume normal operations Sunday at 5 p.m.

UNC School of the Arts - All classes and activities canceled from 8 a.m. Thursday through noon Sunday. 

High Point University - All classes canceled Thursday and Friday. Security, Food Service, Campus Enhancement, Student Life and other staff will work around the clock.

 

Athletic Events 

UNC home opener against UCF - canceled 

UNC Pembroke at Catawba College - canceled 

NC State vs West Virginia - canceled 

21st Down East Football Viking Classic (Winston Salem State vs. Elizabeth City State) - canceled with rescheduling as a possibility.

Durham Bulls games - All Durham Bulls games will be played in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

 

Other Events

Dreamville Music Festival - The inaugural year of J. Cole's Raleigh-based music festival also featuring SZA, Big Sean and more was canceled. No makeup date announced and refunds are said to be issued soon. 

SPARKcon 2018 - canceled with updates on a makeup date to be provided soon.

Raleigh Home Show - canceled with updates on a makeup date to be provided soon.

BugFest - canceled, will be rescheduled.

Apex Music Festival - canceled, will be rescheduled. 

Greensboro Pride - canceled, will be rescheduled. 

Alan Jackson Concert at Spectrum Center - canceled, will be rescheduled

Clayton’s 67th Annual Festival - Rescheduled for Oct. 31 - Nov. 4

RNC Scheduled Dates Announcement - Rescheduled no later than Oct. 1

Zac Brown Band Concerts - Concerts on September 13 through the 15 have all been cancled; tickets will be refunded

 

Services

Amtrak Passenger Train Services - changes to schedule through NC:

The following passenger train services will be canceled between Wednesday and Sunday:
•    Auto Trains (trains 53 and 53), which run from Lorton, Va. to Sanford, Fla.  
•    Silver Meteors (Trains 97 and 98), which run from New York City through Rocky Mount and Fayetteville and conclude in Miami.
•    Crescents (trains 19 and 20), which run from New York City to New Orleans and travel through Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury and Charlotte NS 19 and 20.
•    Silver Star (southbound train 91), which runs from New York City through Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Cary, Southern Pines and Hamlet, and conclude in Miami, will be cancelled between New York City and Jacksonville, Fla.

The following passenger train services will be canceled from Thursday through Sunday:
•    Silver Star, (northbound train 92), which run from Miami to New York and runs through   Hamlet, Southern Pines, Cary, Raleigh and Rocky Mount, is canceled between Jacksonville, Fla. and New York City.
•    Carolinians (trains 79 and 80), which run from New York City to Charlotte and travel through Rocky Mount, Wilson, Selma, Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury and Kannapolis.
•    Piedmonts (trains 73, 74, 75, 76, 77 and 78), which run from Raleigh to Charlotte.

Also, passenger train service will be canceled for the Palmettos (trains 89 and 90), which run from New York City through Rocky Mount, Wilson, Selma and Fayetteville before arriving in Savannah, Ga., will be canceled between Washington D.C. and Savannah from Wednesday through Tuesday.
