GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Spirit Airlines is celebrating the beginning of nonstop service to three destinations from Piedmont Triad International Airport.

The airline announced back in June that it would be starting service to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa.

For its first flight to Tampa Wednesday morning, there will be a ribbon cutting and other passenger contests.

Regular service to both Tampa and Fort Lauderdale will start Thursday and service to Orlando will start Friday.

Service to and from Orlando will run three times per week, while service to and from Fort Lauderdale and Tampa will operate twice a week. Eventually service will increase to four times per week for Orlando and three for the other two, starting in November.

"Spirit is an ultra-low cost carrier that is building a sterling reputation for reliable, on-time service to key markets," said Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Chairman Stephen D. Showfety back in June.
