ARCHDALE, N.C. -- Officials are trying to figure out what caused a welding shop in Archdale to go up in flames.

  • A welding shop in Archdale caught fire.
  • No one was injured.
  • About 10 fire departments helped out.

Firefighters say they got a call around 5 p.m. Wednesday about a fire at Lowder Steel on Coltrane Mill Road.

There were people inside the building at the time, but no one was injured.

Nearly 10 fire departments in the area helped put the fire out, but without fire hydrants in the area, crews used a nearby pond to fill a tanker with over a thousand gallons of water.

Fire officials believe there were some chemicals in the building during the time of the fire.
