GRAHAM, N.C. -- Alamance County officials say they're keeping an eye on a Confederate monument in Graham, after protesters toppled down 'Silent Sam' at Chapel Hill.

Last year, one man was charged for inciting a riot after protesting at the same statue.

"The sheriff's department and I spoke this morning and they are going to maintain their observation on the statue and just stay on alert,” explained Alamance County Manager Bryan Hagood. “We've indicated to the sheriff's department that anything they need from county government to help them in their patrols to just let us know."

The county manager says their biggest concern is public safety and a plan to address concerns if there's a similar situation.
