FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A big annual celebration Saturday paid tribute to 78 years of Army paratroopers.

  • Event held at the Airborne and Special Operation Museum
  • The entire 82nd Airborne Division was at Fort Bragg
  • Sept. 4 marks the 100th anniversary of Fort Bragg's founding

National Airborne Day was celebrated at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. Soldiers from Fort Bragg demonstrated their training and their skills. A special exhibit at the museum recognizes the 100th anniversary of the founding of Fort Bragg.

"We're recognizing all the contributions that all the millions of paratroopers that have served this nation have contributed,” said Tom McCollum, the Garrison public information officer for the post. "Not just the defense of the nation but the leadership that has come out of it."

Saturday's celebration was special for another reason. Officials tell us that for the first time in 12 years, the entire 82nd Airborne Division is home at Fort Bragg.

Sept. 4 is the actual 100th anniversary of the post's founding.
