GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The 2018 Wyndham Championship opened with a bang Thursday. Brant Snedeker shot the tournament low with a score of 59 in his opening round.

Hundreds of fans of all ages were at Sedgefield Country Club to watch the first day. Some came for the fun and others, like Chris Hargett and his young son Russell, came for the bonding experience.

Chris says he tries to bring Russell to the tournament at least one of the days.

"We live locally, we had some days off and we try to take some days off around the tournament cause it's a nice walk," he said.

Although the day was warm, for some younger fans it symbolized the end of summer and the return of the school year. Reece and Finley Tisdale spent one of their last days of vacation watching the players and trying to get autographs.

Joseph Ligon and his friends came out to start the weekend early. He thinks the Wyndham has created an environment that is welcoming to fans, even in the early days.

"I think Thursday is the new Friday. So, I think it's a good way to kickstart your weekend, get out here and just take it all in," Ligon said.
