HIGH POINT, N.C. -- People who live near Sandy Ridge Road are learning more about the DOT's plan to widen a portion of the road over the next few years.

  • The project plan includes widening the portion of Sandy Ridge Road from Skeet Club Road to I-40.
  • NCDOT plans to start construction by September of 2020.
  • The public is welcome to comment on the proposed plans and maps for the projects until Sept. 14.

This was originally a city of High Point project but, after it was submitted to the State Transportation Improvement Program, it was handed over to the NCDOT.

The project plan includes widening the portion of Sandy Ridge Road from Skeet Club Road to Interstate 40. The widening will expand two lanes to a four lane, divided highway with bike lanes and sidewalks.

The NCDOT heard from neighbors Tuesday night on the final design for the project and showed them how their properties as well as local traffic patterns will change.

Officials said the next steps are to complete the environmental paperwork and then start the acquisition process next September.

The public is welcome to comment on the proposed plans and maps for the projects until Sept. 14.

NCDOT plans to start construction by September of 2020. The project should take about two more years to complete.
