Thursday brought a much needed relief from the afternoon and evening storms. The afternoon storms will return Friday with high temperatures in the upper 80s to around 90.  Heat index values will reach between 90-93 during the hottest part of the day.

The latest drought monitor came out Thursday and there are no areas under dry conditions across the Triad. Not surprising given all the recent rain.

The coverage of afternoon and evening storms will increase Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Then a front will cross the region and usher in a drier weather pattern for Tuesday through Thursday next week. High temperatures over the weekend will reach the mid to upper 80s and there is a 50 to 60% likelihood of late day storms each day.

The annual Perseid Meteor shower is underway. This is one of the more active meteor showers each year. The peak in activity is overnight Sunday into early Monday morning but you will see a few meteors every night leading up to and after the peak.
