WILKES COUNTY, N.C. -- A road rage incident in Wilkes County involving a father and son left the father dead, and the son injured.

Officials say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

It started on U.S. Highway 421 south and ended on the off-ramp at the Red, White and Blue road exit. Multiple shots were fired.

Fifty-six-year-old Kelly Black died and his son, 25-year-old Stephen Black, was also shot. He is currently in critical condition.

Deputies arrested a third man on the scene when they arrived, who they believe is the shooter.

The believed shooter called 911 shortly after the incident.

            "911 Operator: Wilkes 911. What's the address of the emergency?

            Caller: Yes, I'm on exit Red, White, and Blue Road. I have a Ford pick-up and a motorcycle pulled over and pulled a gun on me, and I shot him.

            911 Operator: How many shot?

            Caller: Two guys shot, right now. I'm calling 911 right now. I'm calling 911."

The SBI is currently assisting with the investigation.
